Annual golf trip
My friends and I do an annual golf trip. This property was a perfect place to hold this year's event. Large house with plenty of space to gather as a group, but enough beds in order to not have to share. The house is beautiful and clean. Jacuzzi, pool and yard are perfect to enjoy the weather and views. Recommend this for any size gathering; from family reunions or friends coming together. Check in process was super easy, friendly owners, just a perfect property. Booking this again for a family holiday weekend for sure.

Amazing Unique Opportunity

Fantasy Come True
We booked for our anniversary. New VBRO listing and we were beyond excited to have an opportunity to stay in one of the Treehouse Guys built amazing treehouses. The treehouse was plenty spacious, and the views were absolutely amazing. For being in the desert everything was so green, and the mountain views were fantastic. This is on a working cattle ranch so there were cattle also grazing in the green pastures. Everything was perfect from the wind blowing into the treehouse's porch, to the porch swing and the local milled mesquite side, to the recycled wood beams brought in from Canada from an old air hanger. There is even a running river (stream) and a pond. Tubac is a quaint artistic town that has great restaurants and shops. There is so much history in this region of Arizona due to the migration of people on the Anza Trail from Mexico. Lots of Spanish Catholic missions along the trail. I was more than happy to recommend this property to local Sahuarita residents with a post to our neighborhood community. We had our 14 yr. old one of the nights and she said it was so “aesthetically pleasing”. We enjoyed the pool, diving board and spa. We even enjoyed “Chewy” the automatic, super quiet and hard working lawnmower. Thank you for sharing your property with us!!!

Wonderful stay!
Our little prayer group has been getting together for over 40 years. This is a beautiful, peaceful property and we loved our stay. It was perfect for our group of older women having a special reunion. The owners were so kind, helpful and attentive with all of our questions and needs. They really went out of their way to help us. They are our new dear friends! We highly recommend the ranch. We will return!

Awesome Home for Large Group
This home is amazing. The furniture alone is an experience worth exploring every day. The host was great about addressing any questions or needs we had. The house was very clean. The location is great for exploring the area. We were close to golf courses and had a wonderful time with friends and would definitely stay again.

Amazing!
This property is beautiful! We had our family stay here and were blown away by the beautiful house, the abundant space, and the hospitality of the hosts. This is literally the perfect place to get family together. We rented the treehouse too and it was so cool! The hosts were so accommodating and flexible with us and were super friendly! The pool, hot tub, beautiful views, and luxurious home just made our weekend perfect. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Unforgettable Experience!
We hosted my mom and her twin's 80th birthday get together, and the ranch made it absolutely unforgettable! We used the main house, treehouse and bunk house, and it was so perfect for our family, with some others staying at the resort, which by the way is just a short mile walk or bike away. From the moment I booked it through our stay, the hosts were so hospitable and a joy to work with, answering my many questions coming from family quickly, they even had suggestions as to area chefs, party rental places, etc. And the ranch...oh my gosh, so beautiful and in such an incredible setting with great views, cozy wood fireplaces that we used each night, a great pool deck (too cold to get in the pool but the hot tub got use) and the treehouse is a must-rent-so unique and so much fun. This is a place we will return to - our family is still thanking us for finding it, so thank you for making this absolute gem available for the rest of us to enjoy. As if you can't tell, we loved it!

Our stay at the Shankle Ranch
Great property! It was everything we could have imagined and more. We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary and had 20 of our guests stay at the Shankle, 2 more at the Treehouse. In addition, we had an additional 26 guests come to the Shankle for the day for a "Field Day" competition. The lawn in the backyard was perfect for this, it was wonderful! Beautiful views, spacious, and yet very private. The antiques lovingly collected by the owners and all of the historical touches were amazing. This home is a must-see-stay. Thank you to the hosts for making this wonderful place available for all to enjoy.

50th anniversary at the Treehouse
We rented the Shankle Treehouse in addition to the Shankle Ranch for our family members during our 50th anniversary celebration. It was wonderful to have the space for additional people to stay that was right close by. The Treehouse is fascinating, and makes you feel a little like a kid again. Very appropriately decorated with all of the amenities you would need. The owners are wonderful to work with, and we would absolutely rent it again if the opportunity arises!

The Historical Shankle Ranch was the perfect place
for us to have a family reunion.
The home is beautiful and the facilities were wonderful.
Everyone commented on what a great place I had found. We get together every few years somewhere in the nation and many commented "Let's come back here again". It seemed like every time I turned around I would find another interesting carving or article that is unique. Each of the bedrooms are large and well furnished with comfortable beds. There was ample room for all 14 of us. We never felt the least bit crowded. We cooked all of our meals in the well-equipped kitchen and had more than enough tableware to serve our meals.

The weather was colder than normal for Tubac that weekend, so we had fires in the huge fireplace every night. The boys brought wood in every afternoon from the woodpile and the fireplace kept us cozy warm.
​
The patio is so spacious and comfortably furnished. The sun setting on the mountains was spectacular, true "Purple Mountain Majesty" right there for us to behold every evening. We seemed to congregate there on the patio and watch the clouds pass over the beautiful mountain. There was lots going on, plenty to keep everyone happy and occupied.
​
We all highly recommend this ranch to anyone wanting a beautiful, quiet, comfortable spot for a large group.

Ultimate Peaceful Venue
We are a group of friends who have been meeting to meditate together for decades. This was clearly a favorite venue as it was remote and pastoral. The owner was incredibly responsive to any concerns or needs we had. We definitely plan to make this venue an annual gathering.

Excellent time
We had such a nice time! It was on our bucket list to stay in a treehouse and Shankle Ranch did not disappoint. We did some shopping in Tubac (great artsy town) and had fun enjoying a night without technology in the treehouse. Great hostesses. They went out of their way to make our stay nice.

Fabulous House
Did a girls’ weekend in Tubac with 10 girls and this was the perfect house! The host was extremely helpful and communicative prior to our arrival. The host showed is all around this lovely, absolutely charming house, full of beautiful antiques and lots of great spaces to enjoy our weekend. We are now planning a couples trip to the house, as it would also be perfect for couples.

Beautiful Spanish ranch house wonderfully renovated. Very well outfitted for a small to medium sized group. Furnishings are unique, antique and eclectic. Property managers were communicative, helpful and proud of the property. We intend to visit again.

Quiet seclusion
Great stay at the Treehouse. Definitely off-the-grid and beautiful surroundings. Enjoyed deer, wild turkey, and tons of bird sightings from the balcony. Only minus was poor to nonexistent Wi-Fi connectivity. That said, we will recommend the Treehouse to friends and family.

35th annual guy trip and friendly competition
In 35 years of having our annual "guy trip and bonding experience" the Historic Shankle Ranch, has to rank in the top 3 of places we've stayed. The photos on the website don't do justice to the ranch. & great bedrooms with a pool in the middle of it all made for a perfect location that was at the same time, very private and yet open to the views of the cattle and the mountains to the east. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

CHARM Retreat
Our nonprofit CHARM rented out the Historic Shankle Ranch and Tree House properties in July to host our Camp Druzy 2023 volunteers. We are so grateful to the Historic Shankle Ranch team for hosting us at their beautiful, happy, and magical property! Camp Druzy serves grieving families with children by teaching and nurturing skills to strengthen resilience in health promoting ways, including through a deeper connection with nature. We hosted camp families and volunteers at the ranch for a couple of hours for lunch, gardening, and various strengths-based activities and games. Members of our team who stayed in the ranch home and treehouse absolutely loved it. The pond is host to thousands of beautiful blue dragonflies and we also saw deer, a heron, butterflies, and of course hummingbirds (a "charm" is a group of hummingbirds). One of our child campers was heard at the ranch saying "this is the BEST day of my life!" We are already looking forward to next year and are so grateful to Carolyne - who was always so caring, kind, and helpful from the moment we met!

Just a fun one today. Drawn with a little ink and some crayons!
I was “on assignment” a couple of weeks ago, taking pictures for the non-profit “CHARM” during a family summer retreat in Tubac. CHARM is the wonderful non-profit founded by Heidi Pottinger to help families deal with major loss, like a death.
Most of the workshops take place at the Tubac Golf resort, but one afternoon’s activities were at the nearby historic Shankle Ranch, which I was not aware of until then. It was started in 1930 and today operates as a terrific place to vacation. They even have a treehouse that you can rent and hang out and sleep in.
It also has a lovely small lake. That’s where I met this frog.
